  Dear CH, some freelancers have intention to present their work against shiny and glossy backgrounds (mock ups). These design looks totally different if you present them against flat surface. Therefore, if you like some design ask the designer it present it against flat, white or dark background.

  avoid variations of the split logo format where the stalks of alphabets are used to break the name into parts , either as speech bubbles or as normal as these are all too common in innumerable contests. Case in point
