Oil pipelines are commonly buried 3–5 feet beneath riverbeds to protect them from environmental exposure and mechanical damage. However, riverbed scour and sediment transport during floods or strong flow events may remove sediment and potentially expose the buried pipeline. Continuous monitoring of riverbed elevation is therefore essential to ensure pipeline safety and to understand sediment dynamics.
