Essay Map Instructions History 111 Step 1: Go to the following website in order to begin creating your essay map. [login to view URL] Step 2: Be sure that you are ready to fill out the entire essay map (or can leave your computer on the webpage until you are). Although the page allows you to save the file, most people cannot open a .rtw extension on their computers. Instead, you will want to do a rough draft on paper or the computer and then finish the whole thing in one sitting and print it to turn in. Step 3: Go ahead and enter your name and the topic “Women in Islam”. Next, click get started on the bottom right hand corner. Step 4: Begin filling out your map by typing in your overall thesis statement. Click the down arrow when finished. Step 5: Type in your three main arguments based on the three parts (that come from the prompt) below. Remember that these will serve as the topic sentences for your main paragraphs for all 3 points. • Point 1: The Role of Islamic women in the Middle Ages • Point 2: The Role of Islamic Women Today • Point 3: Are Islamic women oppressed or has Islam been unfairly targeted by those with a political agenda or some other bias? Step 6: For each main idea you enter in, click the down arrow and provide 3 supporting details. Be sure to cite where each of your details came from. When you want to go back and do this for another main idea, just click the up button to return to your main ideas page. Step 7: Once you have filled out all the supporting details, click the down button and write a one sentence conclusion that uniquely restates the overall argument/thesis of your paper. Step 8: Mandatory: Click “Finish” on the bottom right hand side of the green screen and choose “Print”. Optional: click “Share” and email a copy of the file to yourself just in case there are any issues with your printed copy.
