Design Training

This will comprise the design and delivery of a learning event on a topic allocated to you for up to an hour and a portfolio of evidence telling the story of planning and designing the event; research undertaken, review of literature, copies of learning material and group reflections. topic of the training: Transfer of learning (from training to workplace) Learning Event: A key learning outcome of this module is the acquisition of practical skills in facilitation learning and development. At postgraduate level students are expected to research and develop their knowledge and practice in these themselves although the module sessions will cover relevant theories and learning frameworks. Groups are required to work in small teams and each team will deliver a short facilitated session to an audience of their peers for an hour followed by time for reflection and evaluation of learning. Each team will present their session on pre-arranged dates (see schedule below). The group will be required to set appropriate objectives for the learning event and identify appropriate learning methods accordingly. Some reference to relevant theories and models will be required. The focus throughout the learning event should be on engaging with the audience to facilitate their learning on agreed topic that delivers the learning outcomes The following points must be taken into account in planning the learning event and provide indicators of the marking criteria to be used by the module leader: • The session must not be shorter than 50 minutes and no longer than 60 minutes. • Every member of your group must participate in some way in the delivery of the session. • Appropriate handouts must be provided for the participants. The handouts can include material from various sources, but must also include some material, which the group has specifically developed (i.e. copying from books and journals exclusively is not acceptable). All material must be referenced as appropriate. The handouts will be graded according to how they have been used in the session and how well they support and develop the session. • The group should aim to use a variety of different learning methods to maximise participation. The group must take responsibility to ensure that the relevant equipment for the individual group event is available in the room. At the end of each event there will be an opportunity for whole group feedback. Each group will be asked to prepare a set of trigger questions that will form the basis of this. This will act as a springboard for further dialogue that brings the different threads of the module together. Each group will also be required to collate written feedback at the end of the session using an evaluation form.
