Android Media Playback

Description of Services Required: • Develop an Android version of an existing Windows based streaming media decoder software package. This decoder will receive a multimedia stream from an existing encoder through an Ethernet network using the TCP/IP protocol. • This decoder software will run on at least one of the following two chip and operating system combinations: 1. A Rockchip processor running Android 4.1 or later 2. An Amlogic chip running Android 4.1 or later • Properly convert the existing video composition engine and layout structure available in Windows OS. • Implement latency management. • Implement audio decoding & playback. The design should ensure that Audio and Video remain synchronized in all cases. • Implement event log management using the simplest form, with the logs routed to the Android logging mechanism. • Compile the Java portion of existing code into the Android program. • Android image configuration & hardening includes preventing users from getting out of the playback system, and making the unit start up on boot. • Implement copy protection and licensing support using an approved licensing mechanism (which will be given to you by us). • Replace the boot screen so that when the Android device boots up, it will show a predefined logo. When the decoder starts after license verification, it should go to the default selected source or to the home screen. • The Android decoder will support 4:2:0 color decimation. • Implement Watchdog functionality. In other words, if the streaming software becomes unresponsive, a separate watchdog application should attempt to restart the streaming software. If that does not work, the watchdog application should reboot the player hardware. • Implement in-field software upgrade support. This feature should work in such a way that it should not be possible for the decoder to get into a state that is unrecoverable in the field. Summary of Deliverables: • A software design document describing the class hierarchy, interfaces, and operation of the system in enough detail that a new developer could read the document and understand the overall design of the system and which component is responsible for each feature. • Commented source code for all of the delivered software. • Make files with build scripts or equivalent to build executables from the source and any required libraries. • A unit test tool or test procedure document that can be used to verify each feature in the specification. Support: • Contractor should provide one year of support for the components that are delivered including bug fixes and enhancements.
