Rick R. Flores is an experienced writer, editor, social development worker and freelance journalist. He served the Mindanao Coalition of Development NGO Networks (Mincode) for six years as Senior Program Officer managing different programs, namely, tri-people peacebuilding, good governance, and policy advocacy.
He had a brief stint with the Mindanao Economic Development Council (Medco) in 2006 as member of the Communications and Media Affairs Division, a unit that engaged several Mindanao actors. From 2002-2006, he joined a multi-disciplined evaluation of numerous projects funded by Bread for the World, Save the Children-UK, Oxfam-International, and the United Nations Multi-Donor Programme (UNMDP). As journalist he writes for UCA News, a Bangkok-based news wire agency that covers the Asian region, contribute to MindaNews and the Philippines News Agency (PNA), as well as for the Philippine Human Rights Reporting Project of the Institute for War and Peace Reporting ( IWPR).
At present, Rick is the Communications Specialist of the Mindanao Peoples Caucus (MPC), a widely-recognized non-government organization (NGO) that promotes the peace process in the Philippines and advocates for the full recognition of the rights of the indigenous peoples to their ancestral domain. Rick is also a Senior Partner of the Mindanao ComStrat and Policy Alternatives, a Mindanao-based think-tank that empowers local communities to promote change through communications.
Rick also served a leading newspaper in Davao City, the Mindanao Times, as desk editor and subsequently as managing editor. He has written extensive articles on major issues affecting Mindanao and was commissioned to write grant proposals for numerous non-profit organizations as well as reports for several funding agencies operating in the Philippines.
