It is a very simple task to understand the political activity of members of parliament. A person understanding basic French is preferred although if task is successfully completed the skill is not needed.
1) Using the list of politicians in this website as reference:

Complete Variable 1 and Variable 2.
Variable 1: Count the number of times a politician was elected BEFORE 1997.
Example: This politician was elected 2 times before 1997
12/06/1988 - 01/04/1993 : Hauts-de-Seine - Rassemblement pour la République
28/03/1993 - 21/04/1997 : Hauts-de-Seine - Rassemblement pour la République
16/06/2002 - 25/06/2007 : Hauts-de-Seine - Rassemblement pour la République
Variable 2: Count the number of times a politician seated in parliament BEFORE 1997 for more than a year.
Example: This politician was elected 3 times (Variable 1) but never seated for at least one year. So Variable 2 is 0.
16/03/1986 - 01/04/1986 : Isère - Rassemblement pour la République
12/06/1988 - 02/11/1988 : Isère - Rassemblement pour la République
28/03/1993 - 01/05/1993 : Isère - Rassemblement pour la République
