Convert .png or .psd file to .dst format

We have two simple images that need to be converted from either a .png or .psd file format to .dst format for embroidery. The design shop was trying to charge us $80 to convert the images and that's outrageous. It's my understanding that the files can be converted easily if you have embroidery software, which we don't own.
Thank you for the speedy reply, the T-shirt is a gift for someone we know who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and we'd like to get it to her asap.
