Hi. My name is Daron, and my project is a bit of a problem for me. This price range is a bit misleading - I am actually looking to pay someone a lot more over a long period of time using a royalties / commission method. (Ideally, anyway.) I am developing a print-on-demand deckbuilding adventure card game. Each of 300+ cards will require an illustration less than half the size of a typical playing card. I am looking for an art style that is clean, a little cartoonish, and conveys that nostalgic, Dungeons & Dragons style tabletop roleplaying game feeling with modern sensibilities baked in. Something in the ballpark of Card Hunter's art style (see below).
I am hoping to release the game in print-on-demand format in 2017, with a conventional retail version sometime after (if the project is a wild success or the subsequent Kickstarter funds it).
I would be willing to pay an artist considerably more than he or she is worth if the illustrator is willing to subscribe to a royalty-style payment contract (either indefinitely, for a fixed period, or until a set payout is reached). I am looking for someone to work within these parameters because - while the game is fantastic - my budget is out-of-pocket, and those pockets aren't deep! In a nutshell, I am looking to overpay an artist who will hop on board this project with me and ride it out.
In addition to illustrating 300+ cards, I might also like to commission a (very) few larger pieces. The sales model for this deckbuilding game project is expansion-based, so the (strong!) prospect of future work is built-in.
