The nelly moser audio codec is a closed source proprietary codec used by Adobe/Macromedia flash for audio input from the end user's microphone. It is used primarily for real time audio communication.
Speex ( [login to view URL] ) is an open source audio codec.
We use the red5 ( [login to view URL] ) open source flash server to enable real time communications between flash users in a conference application. We run red5 in a generic *nix environment.
Your mission should you choose to accept it, is to convert *in real time* the audio sent to the red5 server from the flash player "microphone" input source (in nelly moser format) into speex and pipe the newly converted speex formatted audio into another application's input.
In the event that this task can not be completed in a *nix environment, we can switch to a windows platform.
