Computer Vision

This is a small project involving computer vision methods, here are the tasks. The image is attached. • Implement the first derivative edge finding, using templates of your choice. • You must implement the convolution yourself, rather than using Java ConvolveOp class, my [login to view URL] program, or other existing programs. • You must use something more sophisticated than Sobel’s templates. Good candidates may be Kirsch templates or larger templates • Your program should work on rgb images, either by adding the colour components first, or by doing separate convolutions and combining their results in a more sophisticated way. • Perform contrast thresholding. • Implement simple edgel clean-up, deleting all isolated edgels and edgels whose orientation is incompatible with any of their neighbours. • Show partial results after convolution, after contrast hresholding, and after edgel clean-up. Produce global counts of edgels remaining after each stage. • Input Images: Use the image [login to view URL] to demonstrate your results. You may show results on other images as well, if you wish. You may like to use some smaller images or even artificial images of your own choice for the initial testing of your program. Deliverables: 1. Written report. Your report should state clearly in the introduction which ideas/methods you had implemented. Include formulae and/or figures as necessary, describing and justifying in detail your method(s) of solution. Your report should also contain a clear conclusion, including comments on your tests, discussion and/or analysis of your results, and suggestions for further improvements to any aspects of your work. 2.
