Database Management System In the school of computing and information technology students are accepted to the modular programme three times each year August/September, January and May/June at the beginning of each semester and summer session. Application must be made in June, October and March respectively. Once the applications are processed the application forms for the “accepted persons?? are sent to Admissions, there an ID# is assigned to each person. The application forms are then returned to the SCIT Students Affairs Office. Two lists are compiled one of “accepted?? persons and one for “not accepted?? persons. In the “not accepted?? list the reason for non-acceptance must be stated. The matriculation requirements for the programme are 5 CXC grades 1,2,3 & 3 or 5 GCE grades A, B, C, passes in Math and English are compulsory and generally science subjects preferred. Each person on the two list must be informed by letter. Those who are accepted must complete a pre-selection sheet, that is, select the modules they wish to do for the coming semester. A schedule of the modules is posted at the beginning of the semester. Once the modules are chosen, a voucher is generated. Students should pay for modules and return a copy of the voucher to the Students Affairs Office during registration period. Requirements Build a database application that will capture the information required for the acceptance, registration and scheduling of the modular students. The DB should have an acceptance module, a registration module, a payment module, and a scheduling module. Deduce the data required for each module. The system should automate the acceptance, registration and scheduling process. In the acceptance process, each applicant is ranked according to his/her CXC/GCE passes. Five subjects are ranked and their ranking value is added to give an overall value to the applicant. CXC grades 1,2,3 get values of 1,2,3 respectively. GCE grades A, B, C get values 1,2,3 also. The values for each of the five subjects are added and the applicant is assigned the sum. The accepted persons are those with the lowest rank from the persons who apply. The number of persons accepted is usually fifty (50) but this # may vary. Classes are scheduled 6-9 pm Mon ??" Fri, Sat. 9 am ??" 12 pm & 1-4 pm. The database should also be able to generate class lists based on the students who have registered for the courses.
