AJAX and google maps

I have a project using AJAX and google maps. It is small right now but with the proof of concept I expect a larger project next fiscal year (starting in Feb). I have an XML file that contains location information for pins on a google map. I need some interface controls (i.e. drop downs) to select which level to look at as well as having the maps auto update size based on the distances between pins and the number of pins. The page is going to be pulling from a constantly updated database (from XML source) so it need to refresh regularly. The pins need to be easily customizable. We should be able to use the google ?€œget directions?€ either from two pins or from a custom location to a pin. The project need to use only standard AJAX or google APIs

My client has updated their XML file and I have to wait until the end of the week to obtain it. At that time I will make a selection of a contractor.
