I need help to get DHCP working using DnsMasq on a brand new Debian server to which I have physical access. I have just finished installing the latest (Lenny 5) Debian version and Debian is up and running with good internet connectivity using a static IP working on eth0.
Now I "simply" want to serve DHCP out on eth1 to an ethernet hub which will be connected, via ethernet, to a small number of windows machines so they can connect also to the internet. I have followed the directions in [login to view URL] very carefully and just cannot get the windows machines to connect. To make life simple I have simply connected up one windows machine to eth1 but cannot get a connect.
I have previously setup a redHat machine to do this with no problem. I point this out so you know that this is not a windows machine or cabling problem. All the windows machines are set to DHCP and get their IP's just fine when connected to the redHat machine.
Here are my [login to view URL] settings (excludes comments):
# Configuration file for dnsmasq.
domain-needed
interface=eth1
dhcp-range=[login to view URL],[login to view URL],12h
dhcp-authoritative
According to the Debian package manager dnsMasq is installed correctly with no problems.
Just tell me what I am doing wrong - I will make the change(s) myself.
