Batch Import into sharepoint

Our customer will create XML files (layout and sample will be provided) and an associated tiff image in an directory.? The program(s) that are being contracted will poll that directory and move the images into an existing sharepoint document library.? The XML file will be used to index the image for searching.? Mechanism should be built in to allow complete reporting and auditing of which documents have been processed.?
