Hi Checkout [login to view URL] if you're not familiar with the famous classifieds website. I need an alert system that will periodically (once a day is ok) search for given terms, and e-mail the links and titles of ads in search results, to given e-mail addresses. Here's the details: Home page includes a drop down menu to choose the city ([login to view URL], [login to view URL], etc...), an input box to enter keywords and another one to enter e-mail address. User chooses the city from the drop down menu, enters all keywords he/she wants to be alerted about, separated with a comma, and enters his/her e-mail address. A verification link is sent to his/her e-mail and once verified, we add the search terms to search for that given craigslist website every day. When we find ads associated with those keywords, we send an e-mail containing titles and links of ads for those keywords. I also need a very simple control panel to see all user e-mails, keywords and craigslist domains. I need to be able to edit keywords and e-mails, and delete them if i need to. I need you to send me a mock-up of the three screenshots (sign-up with keywords, e-mail content and control panel) to make sure that we're on the same page. Hi, there is no way I can provide you with mockups as I'm not a web designer :) but I can do all code part for you since I doubt any web designer will be experienced enough to deal with craiglist's protections against spidering. First of all, you'll need some proxies to bypass their security. second, you'll need VPS or dedicated server to run this script on. I can do everything except design part and deliver working app to you, that you'll be able to test from my server (and using my proxies) Thanks

I have a project that I just finished writing, that does almost the same thing. It checks on an hourly basis for properties with certain criteria and sends me an email if there's a new one. I have used selenium and Groovy to implement this because there was no API available. I have seen your post and it doesn't seem as if the API is available for on Craigslist as well. I can do the front-end in php and mysql so that it's cheaper to host and then as for groovy and selenium you will need a box that can run java. I can literally finish this withing 7 days including unit testing! We would of course need to agree on where and how you're going to host this app so that I can use languages and tools appropriate for the environment the app will run in. I see this app in 2 components. One that captures the data from the frontend (including your editing console) and the other component does the calculations i.e. connect to Craigslist pull the data and send the results. And as mentioned these can be totally separate depending on the hosting environment of course. Anyway, I'm very passionate about this and I could write about it all day long.
