Create a White Paper

The title of this paper will be "Inefficiencies of the Internet: Banner Ads, CAPTCHAS and Paywalls". They will be Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 of this paper. In Part 1, you will take the position take the position that Banner Ads are not effective and explain why. you can discuss how users have learned to tune out ads in the margins and how this affects the web owner's use of space. You can discuss how banner ads dont effectively send a marketing message to the viewer because of limited space. You can discuss how the advertiser has few options to measure the effectiveness of a banner ad. You will discuss Google Adwords and show how this system is flawed from an Advertisers point of view. - Google displays ads to users if that user has visited the advertisers website already. Meaning Google has figured out that displaying an client ad that the user is already familiar with generates more clicks than exposing a new vendor. This is good for google but the advertiser is cheated because they are paying Google for a customer they already have. - There is no way to confirm message retention from Banner Ads - Banner Ads can be exposed to "click fraud" In part 2, you will discuss CAPTCHAs - Discuss how CAPTCHAS are frustrating and annoying for users. - Find evidence that people "turn away" from websites when faced with CAPTCHAS thus causing the website owner to lose out on that visitor. - Discuss all the ways CAPTCHAS can be thwarted and how they are not as secure as web owners once thought. - Discuss the error rates and time it takes to solve a Captcha. - Discuss who uses CAPTCHAS and for what purposes. Research and show numbers of captcha solved per example and industry wide. - Explain how a website loses revenue when implementing captchas In Part 3, you will discuss paywalls - A paywall either makes you pay a monthly fee and become a member before accessing content or makes you subscribe for free with the hopes you will upgrade later. Discuss why a website implements a paywall and why it can backfire (turns customers away) - Show the trends and how some users simply will not pay for some content (blogs, news, videos) - Discuss the old theory that causing someone to subscribe with an email address for free used to be a way to monetize web traffic but is no longer effective. - Discuss who uses paywalls and why they are not working. Finally, summarize your findings and discuss why a solution for these three inefficiencies should be created. Discuss how solving these three problems can benefit Advertisers and Website owners together and individually. Support for any opionins should be backed by facts and research.
