Research a recent (within the last five years) case of computer crime against a U.S. or international company or organization in which private information was stolen via electronic means. Provide a short (at least two paragraphs) description of what happened. In your description, include the name of the company or organization, the industry (such as medical, manufacturing, etc.), how the computer crime was perpetrated, who perpetrated the crime (insider, terrorist, hacker, etc.), state whether the company or organization reported the crime or whether the crime was discovered/reported by someone else, and what private information was stolen. Next, describe the impact of the loss of this private information on the company or organization. For example, did the company or organization: lose market share, was the company or organization sued, was there a strong public outcry against the company or organization, did the company or organization have to pay large sums of money, did the incident become a huge public relations nightmare for the company or organization, etc. In your opinion, was the company’s or organization’s response/action sufficient? Do you think the response/action minimized any adverse impact on the company or organization? Finally, identify at least three means the company or organization could have used to detect, minimize, and stop this computer crime.
