We need help in deciding what type of website to setup for an Alpaca business marketing primarily to the US and Canada.
We are going to be devoting the first phase of website after go-live to the educational part of researching, learning and networking about the business. It will include pictures, articles and links to similar sites outside the US and othere sites in the US which are not considered to be competitors (vets, equipment) along with contact forms We will have email running on the website domain name. Later the site will transform into more of a selling site with pictures, pedigrees, marketing oriented copy, contracts and may some e-business.
8 years ago I built and ran a website built from NetObjects Fusion. That was full time then, I don’t have that time now.
So, We need someone to help us decide what kind of website to establish. Should we outsource the site building, or do it ourselves?
We plan to host on Fat Cow where we have email on another domain (for email). We want to have the website operational by mid-late February 2007. The winner of this guidance and advice project will not only be helping me decide what our site will consist of, they will write the bid for the website project (which they can bid on also)
Here is what we need to learn from you.
How do you optimize for SEO, or do we do rough draft and send out for copywriting, or what?
Should site have built-in search capability?
Should there be a site map?
We need the ability to change writing and pictures myself from my computer.
How serious do we have to be about SEO for Google, MSN, Yahoo.
Should banners be static, flash or shockwave.
NOTE this site has to be optimized for 56 Kbps as many visitors will be on dialup modems
Should we use Dreamweaver,(which we have, but no experience), NetObjects Fusion (which has zero customer support, but we have some past history with), Joomla which we didn’t know anything about until reading about it here.
How will we be able to update the site
What type of reliability are web software packages now
Should we use templates or have website built from scratch, use CSS sheets
How long should pages be, how to measure loading speed on various browsers?
Why are so many people looking to build links and what does it gain, how much does it cost and is it useful in this business.
What size of pictures are optimal
How helpful is a guestbook and how do you get site visitors to use it
What about Google ads, pay per click, other Yahoo, MSN and other programs.
Are paid search engine submissions worth it?
Who has experience in the animal (Alpaca) selling business?
How big a project will this be and what is proposed budget?
Will it require any maintenance other than our time?
In other words we need to be brought up to speed about the current cutting edge website, SEO and link strategies.
We will conclude this bidding in 24 hours and decide soon after that whoe we will be discussing these issues with over the 10-14 days on a sporadic basis. Email is likely the primary communication method and IM.
