MATLAB and C/C++ coding - large multi-phase project We are commissioning the first phase of a long work process and will hire several contractors as a competency test. The successful candidates in this phase will be offered additional phases of work. Each phase of work will be for less than $1,000, but the total project budget is close to $10,000. The development effort will involve translating a complex MATLAB program into a command-line driven (no UI) compiled C or C++ application for Windows 7 (and higher). The first phase of work will be to import an XML file format into an optimized database of your design: SQL Server 2008 or higher is preferred, but we would also consider an open source database platform. Thorough code documentation is our most important criteria. If you cannot write extremely well in English or do not have experience with MATLAB or C/C++, do not apply. We will provide the XML file format only to contractors who answer the following questions in sufficient detail for us to evaluate written English responses. If these questions are not answered we will ignore the proposal: 1. Please describe your expertise with MATLAB. 2. Please describe your expertise with C or C++. Which language will you use and why? Which compiler will you choose and why? 3. Which database will you use for the first phase of work and why? Describe your experience with this platform. 4. Explain how will you document your code so that managers and other developers will understand every aspect of your work? We will likely have follow up questions based on your responses.

I am very proficient in c, c++, matlab, mysql. I have 16 years c++ developing experience now, and I have worked for 6 years. Hello! My name is Ognjen Milicevic, and I am a dual degree medical doctor/electrical engineer. I perform all my work in MATLAB, with basic knowledge of C family of languages. For my scientific work, MATLAB is quite sufficient. I am bidding because I am one of the stakeholders in a small start up. Hello. I think that I match your project requirements since my experience in MATLAB and both C and C++ is more than 10 years. I've implemented various data processing, visualization and simulations in MATLAB. My main C/C++ compiler is GCC since it is open source, cross platform and provides high quality compilation results. The preference of database will depend on the project needs. I'd like to have more detailed project description to choose the best possible solution. My preference here is also open source project -- PostgreSQL. I provide clear code comments for every function/class in source code for ease of further maintenance. Also the design document for all key decisions is maintained along with source code. What exactly are your documentation needs? Please check my profile page for completed project reviews. Hi, i am bidding on this project because of my very good programming skills. I'm software engineer. Matlab: I have learned matlab up to basic extent. Because of my work mostly in C++ and Java i haven't practiced matlab much but i have worked with it pretty much. I know making functions, working with different data types, processing data and showing data. C++: I am expert in following C++ technologies: data structures multi threading network programming OOP Database: I have core knowledge of databases. I have worked with MYSQL and SQLSERVER and i understand most concepts and can work with databases. I can design database tables, normalize tables for efficient and correct data storage format, retrieving data from tables by table joining and Sqlserver triggers. Documentation: I have good OOP knowledge so i can make standard type of code and document it according to its functionality

1. I am a MATLAB expert. I use MATLAB especially MATLAB Coder and Embedded Coder for my company CBTC railway project. The workflow: Simulation -> C/C++ code generation -> SIL/PIL testing (to prove code correctness) 2. I use Qt (both C and C++ are accommodated here). Qt is cross-platform C++ framework and has vast API such as XML parser, database connection. I already implemented XML parser, SQLite DB and SSL in previous Qt project. I use MinGW compiler because it is free and powerful. 3. Although I already use SQLite for DB Connection from Qt. My experience in advance DB is still intermediate such as MySQL. I prefer MySQL because it is free and more powerful than SQLite. Of course it depends the magnitude of your project. 4. I use Doxygen for code documentation. It has clear link between the code and the comment and can link the usage of variable and function in the project.

Which compiler will you choose and why? I shall go for C++ as it is object oriented and shall use Visual studio for the development because MATLAB and Visualstudio both will run under windows 3.
