A stand-alone media player for vehicle installation in buses and limousines (12 volts).
Platform raspberry PI 3 hardware. And KODI?
Just some basic infos, for better understanding what is needed.
This media player must replace the regular DVD-radio in the rear of a limousine.
In this limousine are sitting about 10 party people wanting cool music tracks or musicvideos in the monitors.
The driver in the front area must drive and can not be a DJ at the same time.
Problems of a regular DVD-radio:
….to complicated for most passengers
….to many functions not needed
….DVDs allways scratch and fail
….passengers steal DVDs from collection
….passengers go in menu and change settings
….passengers push wrong buttons and nothing works
….driver can not control volume, speakers might get damaged
Solution is a simple touchscreen media player:
….not complicated for passengers
….not many functions
….no DVDs, all different mp3 and video files are in folders, like a jukebox
….no accesssible menu to change settings
….passengers can connect their own device with bluetooth or aux-cable or USB
….driver can control via external buttons volume up/down and push “next track” for stupid customers

The system should be extremely easy to control by passengers, with only the most necessary functions.
- Play MUSIC files or MP3 via internal USB stick (media collection)
- Play MUSIC files or MP3 via external USB stick (customer access)
- Play MUSIC via AUX input
- Play MUSIC via Bluetooth input

The driver must have the possibility to control via external button the volume and to select Title forward / back. This should work with switching ground to programmed PI input pins
Hardware features:
Outputs: HDMI and Video composite for additional monitors and Audio L / R via USB Audio Adapter to feed an external amplifier.
Software update and update of media file libary on the device via USB
AUX connector (socket or cable) to 3,5mm connecting mobile phones or MP3 players for Audio input
Touchscreen: official raspberry monitor

- 1 play music from internal USB storage (“jukebox” with folders)
- 2 play video from internal USB storage (“jukebox” with folders)
- 3 Aux input enable
- 4 external USB input enable
- 5 Bluetooth input enable
- 6 Setup and file upload/update menu (password protected)
submenu 1 (music):
MP3 folder and file selection, Volume +/-, Title forward / backward, back to main menu
submenu 2 (video):
music video folder and file selection, Volume +/-, Title forward / backward, back to main menu
submenu 3 (AUX):
Volume +/-, Title forward / backward, back to main menu
submenu 4 (USB):
folder and file selection, Volume +/-, Title forward / backward, back to main menu
submenu 5 (Bluetooth):

password protected setup menu. file upload/update function, back to main menu
Additional function:
Programming input pin for power shutdown,
I can create a hardware device what can handle the power off delay.
Before it shuts off 5V power it can switch ground on an input pin for shutting down PI correctly.
When PI gets 5V power it should automaticly continue the last played media title (alternatively the first track in the first folder)
Suggestion: There are some kodi-carplayer-solutions on the net, maybe they can be tailored.
Search “kodi car player” on youtube.
I am open to other software suggestions.
I am an electronic engineer and can take care about the hardware, but have no clue about the software.
hi, i can make the system you require using python, designing a GUI for playing media, controlling it and outputting it to other devices.
as far as output devices, the pi is just like any PC with Linux on it, i would have to install a driver
for each specific device you would want to use, so i will need to know in advance what output devices are going to be used.
the driver can have any control he wants via a wireless device (for example using Bluetooth) or a button that is connected to the raspberry pins.
i'm a signal processing developer, i have a lot of experience with the raspberry pi
i've done projects on it ranging from robotics to image processing
