he music students of our university are able to pick up a key to over 60 (usually locked) The music students of our university are able to pick up a key to over 60 (usually locked) practicing rooms via a KeyWin-Box, which they access with a personal badge. To maintain a fair use, the students are only allowed to practice up to 2 hours per room during rush hours (Mo-Fr from 9am to 6pm), then they have to bring back the key and pick up a new one or give it to someone who’s been waiting because all rooms are occupied.
The KeyWin-Box-Protocol produces a CSV (UTF8)-Log, which can be imported into Excel. We want to be able to automatize the log check to warn or block students who don’t follow the rules.
The log data contains columns like date (A), time (B), action (C), user (D) and key (E). We are talking about over 30’000 logs within 10 days. Analyzing just one day and filtering out all the “bad guys” in the log takes manually over an hour. Unfortunately I don’t know how to program a Macro. I assume it won't take much longer than a few hours to program the macro. All the steps are explained very detailed in the attached file.
The data in the attached excel sheet is dummy data of course. And just you know: It's the students, who want this semi-automatic control to happen, so we can count with a fair play ;-)
