We are designing a mobile health game that gives young adults quests and challenges that help them figure out what to do with their lives by unlocking their purpose and teaching them essential life skills.
We are creating 12 storyboards (2 for each gamer type) that each show one complete quest in the game which should appeal to a specific gamer type using a single game mechanic. The storyboards need to be very easy to understand, 6-panel sequential art boxes, that tell the story of the quest and convey the game mechanic being used. We can also make use of narrative description on the storyboards to clarify meaning.
Participants in the focus group will need to spend no more than 2 minutes to fully understand the storyboard, and then be able to give feedback and discuss what they think about them.
There is no need to make the storyboards color, they can be line drawings, as long as they look good and are very easy to understand.

The game uses a customized intrinsic motivation engine to adapt the story and challenge types to best fit individual gameplay preferences. Part of this design process is researching the design framework of intrinsic motivational customization called "Gamer Types". There are 6 different gamer types in the model, and everyone has a little bit of each in their own unique mix.
