Hi. Mostly VPS have customized tools for do snapshot, even VPS have special plans for snapshot For example, snapshots are free on digital ocean platform. Hello again. I can see that you are still looking for a solution. If you don't want me to do this anymore that's fine but i guess i could just research this for you one more time and come back with a fully tested solution soon. As a matter of fact i already have an idea and i just need to test it. Neither clonezilla nor rear won't help as you have a single filesystem in there while those tools require a separate disk/filesystem to store the archived data in. I got something else that might do the trick though. Please let me know if you are interested.

I'm bidding on this project to save you some money, not to be hired. What you're wanting to do can be achieved by simply reinstall the Operating System. The other option is to install a virtual machine that takes disk snapshots and you can restore to that. (This is the option I would choose if you're learning). You don't even need to rent a dedicated server if you're just learning Ubuntu. You can install a virtual machine on your home computer with something like virtualbox or you can get someone to install a virtual machine on your dedicated server. You can also rent a VPS which almost every provider will have an OS reinstall button you can use. Clonezilla is designed to overwrite your hard drive with the drive unmounted. You can't do this on a live mounted partition (What you're currently doing). Anyway, came across this job and just wanted to help you out. Feel free to message me if you have any other questions.

Usually, server provider providing snapshot ability not depended from server type dedicated or virtual. and it is very strange, if it is not do this. i can provide to you one of the following: vps server, you can configure and install whole required software and user data. after that i can create snapshot at any format do you like, or create script, which will create backup from your server and script to restore whole of this at ubuntu fresh mininal install. only one question. what size of disk space do you use before snspshot.

I currently have Linux Mint 19 Running on my desktop at home and have successfully created a snapshot backup of my system in the event of a disaster i can safely restore my files after re-installing the OS if need be.
