Build me an App -- 2

We are a group of researchers interested in identity analysis. We are looking to create a Web Site or an App that is compatible with the Ipseus software ([login to view URL])

To begin we need either a web site that permits the creation of an Ipseus instrument or we need an app whose interface permits Ipseus instrument creation. Ipseus instruments consist of sets of constructs and entities (up to 20 of each). So the web site/app will need to iteratively provide once screen after another wherein constructs can be created and wherein entities can be entered according to the nature of the instrument the researcher has in mind.

With the instrument complete the web site/app would need to be ready to make an instrument available to a person of research interest. That is the web site/app would need to offer the research subject the option to open the instrument the researcher created and provide an interface that contains a line. At each end of the line would be written, perhaps in a box, the poles of one of the constructs e.g. kind....mean. At the top or bottom or even side of the screen would be icons for the different entities/people (e.g me, me as I used to be, parent, most admired person) of the instrument. The icons might be little blob-like people of different colors, with the potential to have personalized features. That is before someone starts completing the instrument they might change the hair on the top of the head of the entities and provide them with different clothes. They might also want to change the name of an entity eg Favourite teacher to Mrs. Brown.

The line would have to have 9 demarcations ( it is a -4 to +4 scale) and the user would have to be able to use their finger to move and drop each entity to a demarcation on the line. It would have to be possible to drop several blobs into one demarcation. It would be appealing to have some sort of sound effect as each blob drops. Once a blob is selected the drag rate should slow and the App should zoom in on the line such that the user’s attention is focused on dropping the entity on a particular demarcation. An adapted version (later) of the App may be possible that presents just one blob and one construct at any one time. After all blobs/entities are dropped into position, the screen would change to the next construct and the set of entities would reappear for dropping once again onto the scale.

If only one entity will fit on a screen at a time the App could provide construct/entity combinations at random.

The app would need to translate the position of each entity once it has been dropped onto the scale to a (-4 to +4) number. Once all entities have been dropped onto all constructs the matrix of the instrument (the ratings for its entities and constructs) is complete. If there were nine entities and nine constructs in the instrument that would be a 9 x 9 matrix. With the matrix complete the App would need to export an XL file or an Idex file (we can provide the code for the latter file format). The exported file would be emailed to the administrator for importing into the Ipseus program.

The back end of the app could take quite a few forms, depending on cost and feasibility. For example:

on completion of the instrument by all research subjects the app could provide the user with a Send option whereupon an email is sent to the administrator/researcher that has body text in short standard form and an XL file attached. Here, the XL would have to be manually imported into Ipseus by the researcher.

the completed matrix could be sent to the administrator as an Idex file. Here again, the Idex file has to be manually imported into Ipseus.

Ideally, the App will send the file back to the Web Site that automatically imports the file into Ipseus (code available in C#). The researcher would then simply download a single idex file with all completed versions of the instrument into for analysis
