I've been working on a high profile web applications for a while and currently I'm a software consultant at Australia's biggest bank. I'm happy to architect and deliver the social network web app in high code standards and using the most modern frameworks and techniques. The code will be fully documented and tested, and I'll ensure the maintainability and scalability of the app. The backend system I'll offer is basically a fully blown REST API, that means in the future if you decided to build mobile apps, you don't need to worry about the web service that'll support these apps and you'll pay $0 for it. I recommend using NodeJS, ExpressJS and MongoDB for Agility and better performance. What I'd also love to offer with NodeJS is a websocket for realtime notifications/communications.
