Hiring a Shopify Developer for custom shipping - 18/05/2017 23:21 EDT -- 2

We are using Shopify with the Supply Theme. We want to build a website which sells both pre-orders which ship at a later date, and current instock items which ship right away. What we will sell: The items are anime figures, keychains, posters, etc instock items will be keychains, posters, etc. pre-order items will be figures. Overview: A person adds as many items as they want to their cart then they go to the checkout. At checkout the items are sent to the custom App you will make. The App splits the items into suborders then sends the suborders to the box packing algorithm. The box packing algorithm calculates the best box(es) for each suborder and where each item goes in each box. Then it gets the shipping for each box from Canada post/UPS/Fedex. The buyer sees their order with subtotals by suborder, and the total items and shipping. The buyer pays through the default CC payment gateway of Shopify or Paypal. ==================== Order Splitting ==================== We need to accept both pre-order and instock items in one shopping cart, then calculate the shipping separately by item and by instock/pre-order as sub-orders. 1 - We want all the instock items to ship as one sub-order. 2 - Each pre-order item needs to ship as it's own sub-order. For example: If a customer buys 4 of pre-order item A then it goes into one sub-order, but if they buy 3 of pre-order item A and 1 of pre-order item B then it needs to split the order into 2 separate sub-orders for items A and item B. ==================== Bin Packing ==================== The Bin Packing algorithm packs each suborder's items. Each sub-order may be 1 box or a set of boxes as determined by the Bin Packing algorithm. It creates a list of the items in that go in each box and a map of the item positions in the box. I have attached some links to existing Bin Packing algorithms which seem like they might handle that part of the process. We need to show sub-total shipping costs for each sub-order by adding up the shipping for all the boxes of that sub-order. The buyer will see the price for each option Canada Post/UPS/Fedex and can select the option they want for each suborder. Cart shows total item cost (+tax) and total shipping, payment is for total cart. ==================== Admin ==================== In the admin interface we would need to be able to configure settings for the App. Pre-order items need to have a start and end date so we can open pre-orders at a specific date then close them also on a specific date. Product Dates: Add field for product availability Start & End date Products show only if Start date is at or exceeded Products stop being available for order once end date is exceeded (set inventory to zero?) Also need to restrict the number of one pre-order item than users can order at a time. Pre-order items should be restricted to X number able to be added to cart per order/per customer. We would need to be able to add, edit or remove the boxes that the Bin Packing algorithm uses. We think to do this you may need to add fields for each product's dimensions as well as start and end date. These fields can have their values set when we upload product lists from a CSV.
