Rework my app - remove AJAX/XML and introduce direct links

We have a well working app that uses XML to update the user screen. While smooth it is a challenge on some devices and it is too slow.
We simply load an empty page and then request an XML document that loads information like this (those are search parameters):
[login to view URL]://[login to view URL] d Y&_lan=en-us&
We would like to go back to a simple HTML interface where we reload the whole page (and optimize for small page load size).
In addition we would like to allow direct links like this:
[login to view URL]
These are external links we can give to users - all they need to do to load the page is an active session (or we create one after login and redirect to that page).
