This relates to a mid-20s client injured as a result of a vehicle collision. Their relevant injuries included:
• Closed nondisplaced transverse fracture of shaft of right fibula, initial encounter [S82.424A]
• Fracture of Upper and Lower End of Right Fibula [S92.831A] and [S82.831A]
• Tibial plateau fracture, right, closed, initial encounter [S82.141A]
• Closed fracture of shaft of right radius, unspecified fracture morphology, initial encounter [S52.301A]
• Closed Galeazzi's fracture of right radius, initial encounter [552.371 A]
The relevant procedures include:
ORIF, RADIUS [SHX4909] The fracture was reduced with 2 lobster claw
clamps and was found to be stable. A Synthes 3.5 mm LCDC plate was
contoured appropriately to fit the radial shaft.
ORIF, TIBIA PLATEAU [SHX4920] A Synthes variable angle proximal tibial locking plate and was secured to the bone with a cortical screw.
Subsequent research appears to demonstrate the patient is now at increased risk of arthritis and other conditions, at least when it comes to the knee. See, et. al. Honkonen SE. We wish to hire a researcher to supplement our in-house team to write a dense one-pager on the the likelihood of future maladies (such as arthritis of the arm or knee) and future corrective surgery (along with cost).
