We want to be able to access live data from Banklink software via Microsoft Excel. Banklink is a piece of software (see their website - [url removed, login to view]) which stores client transactional data in a proprietary database structure with a separate .bk5 datafile for each client. All the information we need for each client is in each of these .BK5 files. I have attached a sample .BK5 file for you to have a look at.
We need someone to gain access to the data in these proprietary .BK5 files and create an interface with Excel to allow us to read and write data to the BK5 files. We would want to be able to lookup data in client files from within excel to create custom reports, workpapers etc. We would also like to be able to push transactions back into the BK5 file from Excel.
We want to be able to READ the following:
- Return a balance of an account at a specified date
- Return the net movement in an account between a specified date range
- Return actual transaction lines based on specific criteria (Date, Account Code, etc).
I have also attached a general ledger which has been generated in Banklink from that same client file to show the kind of data stored in the BK5 file.
Ideally, Excel would be able to refer to the BK5 file on a live basis. Therefore as changes are made in Banklink (and therefore the BK5 file) the changes are reflected in Excel. We have a lot of clients, and therefore we would want to access a lot of BK5 files too.
Im not exactly sure how you would interface between Excel and the BK5 files, but there would need to be some sort of lookup functionality in Excel to select what data is to come through, or alternatively, the entire contents of the BK5 file could be dumped into a pivot table and looked up from there.
We would like to WRITE transaction journal entries back into the BK5 file...this would involve taking a journal entry in excel and writing it into the database.
I look forward to hearing form you.
