I have a list of projects that needs to be added to a timeline in Excel.
Functionality
Automatic update of a timeline in Excel sheet with names, durations and cost from a list of items. Timeline range defined by start and end dates of items in list.
Description:
I need to be able to see a timeline of events in Excel. The timeline is updated from a list of tasks on another sheet in the same Excelfile. The timeline is updated every time you select the sheet with the timeline.
For each task there is a “project name”, “item name”, “project cost”,” currency” “item days” and “item starting date” that needs to be added to the timeline automatically once it’s added to the list of tasks. “Item starting date” and “Item days” is displayed as a bar on the timeline. The other are displayed as numbers and letters. On the timeline.
The time range also needs to be updated automatically every time you select the sheet with the timeline in the file. The time line range should show:
1 week before the first date of any task in the list
1 week after the duration of any taks in the list
Programming language
I assume this will be an Excel macro.
Examples
List of items: see attached file : “[url removed, login to view]”
Design/look of timeline: see attached file: “[url removed, login to view]”
General
Duplication: It should be possible to duplicate the file and use the functionality on different sets of information.
Add rows: It should be possible to add rows of new information and keep the time line fuctionality. Once any of the fields “project name”, “project cost”, “item starting date”, “item name” and “item days” contain information the item row should be added to the timeline.
Data formats in dependent cells
(if needed for programming of macro):
Project name: (language Swedish or English)
Project cost: number (max 6 digits)
Item date: date format (2010-02-16)
Item name: general format (language Swedish or English)
Item days: number of days
Add columns It should be possible to add columns and keep the automated timeline function
Change headings: it should be possible to change headings in columns and still have the functionality defined in this document.
Compatibility: Windows Excel 2002 SP3 up to Excel 2007
Screen size: adapt for Window Excel in 1280*1024 pixel window
Task hierarchy: No main or subtasks. Tasks that overlap in time should be placed in parallel with the earliest starting point closest to the timeline and building up.
Task range: up to 200 tasks on the timeline. Scrolling right if necessary
Text format on timeline bar:
#Project Name#,: # Item name#, #project cost# #currency#
