Computer Scientist looking to fortify his CV

I have had the opportunity to work at all levels of the Software Lifecycle (in employment). My 2 years and 2 months experience as a Business Analyst at Newcastle University honed in the following of my abilities: - Requirements Gathering - Software Specification - Testing/Quality Analysis - User Acceptance My 7 months experience as Software Developer in various capacities demonstrates my ability to partake in, and understand: - Software Implementation Having me on your team means having someone with an understanding of the Software Lifecycle as a whole. I can talk to Business Analysts, Developers, End Users, and Stakeholders alike — in a language they understand. Today, I am gaining a lot of valuable experience as a Telecom Application Developer. I use Java, PHP, and, PL/SQL to solve challenges in a telecommunications organization.

I did more Requirements Gathering, System Design/Specification, Testing/Quality Analysis (QA), and User Acceptance/Training. I also continued working extensively with SAP and SAP ABAP (in terms of reading, testing, debugging, and writing specifications for it). I also rejoined the United Kingdom Border Agency (UKBA) project. I was a Project Manager on the project and took on tasks such as: -Requirements Gathering (which included liaising heavily with the end user) -System Specification (transforming those Requirements into actionable tasks for the SAP ABAP programmers) -Testing/QA (ensuring that what was created, fulfilled the Requirements) -User Acceptance (arranging end user testing and end user sign off of the project) Project content wise this time round, I was required to make updates to the system to support immigration policy changes, changes which had a hard deadline. These deadlines were government imposed and had legal implications for the University, as well as implications for the relationship between the University and the UK Border Agency. Moreover, the project had implications on the UK government’s ability to utilise the new immigration policies, which undoubtedly affects public confidence.

During my time in ISS (Newcastle University 2010-11 and 2012-13) I worked extensively with SAP and SAP ABAP. My roles included: - Fixing any software bugs that arose within the University’s SAP environment. This required me to debug the code that other people wrote. - Managing projects/new requirements so as to ensure their successful completion. This often required me to debug code as well in order to iron out any bugs that arose during development. - I was involved in the majority of the Software lifecycle including: Requirements Gathering, System Design/Specification, Testing/QA, User Acceptance/Training. Some notable projects I was involved in: 1) Connecting the University with the UK Border Agency to facilitate the exchange of student data. This facilitated the “Student Visa” process for prospective UK students because, the University vouches for the student’s authenticity directly with the UK Border Agency. The University tells the UK Border Agency that “this is our Student” before the Student shows up for the Visa Appointment. At the Visa Appointment, the veracity of the Student Visa Applicant has already been confirmed. 2) Connecting Newcastle University with Newcastle INTO (intohigher.com) in order to facilitate the exchange of student data between the two institutions. Often INTO students would come to Newcastle University to further their education. For each student that came to Newcastle University, our staff had to manually enter their data into our SAP system. This introduced human errors such as typographical mistakes, and as a result, the two institutions would sometimes hold differing information for the same student. I was tasked with connecting the two institutions so that the data was sent back and forth securely. This data was then used to synchronize any changes that happened in either system. Team Name: Student Systems Team Division: Business Systems Service: Information Systems and Services (ISS)
