Hello! I am a professional illustrator and animator, and I'd love to design the characters you need. I have a BA in Animation, I have learnt all there is to know about good character designs during my studies, and have been using that knowledge ever since with the books that I illustrate and with animated videos. How I would go about this project: you provide details of your characters, appearance and personality as well, and then I make several sketches from different views, sending them to you for review. This goes on until you are happy with the initial designs. After that, I flesh out the sketches to detailed full-colors drawings. The design of course wil depend on what kind fo animation you will use them for - Flash animation, cell animation, etc... they of course need different approach, but I'll be happy to find the best for you.
