Hi there,
I have an exam coming up for the construction management module where I have to describe the ethics of the company and sustainable solutions. There are two questions as it is a seen examination and I need a starting point. So I will add both the questions and please, please only bid if you have previous knowledge of this kind of work and you believe you can do it properly and have a spot of time to do it and not just rush through it. The questions are:
Q1.
As part of the MGMT module students were engaged in a simulation activity, which involved playing the role of engineers working for a company that expressed an interest in tendering for work with the Environment Agency. As part of the expression of interest, each team had to prepare an overview of their company that included a statement of the company ethics and its commitment to sustainability and environmental issues.
i.) Describe, with links to relevant literature, the ethical and sustainability principles that you and your team reviewed as a precursor to the development of your company overview. You should describe all the ethical principles, but need only describe in detail the guidance taken from one sub-section from the introduction to the sustainable development document that the team was tasked to review. You should also explain how these principles were interpreted, based on the simulation scenario, in order to be incorporated into your company overview. (30 marks)
ii.) With the benefit of hindsight, and by drawing on examples from the simulation activity conducted as part of the module, describe and assess two situations that effectively demonstrate the challenges of applying the ethical and sustainability principles in practice. (20 marks)
Q2.
As part of the MGMT module, you were given a tender assignment. For the assignment you worked in a team to develop and submit a tender for a construction project. Specifically, the team were required to quantify labour, plant, material and sub-contract requirements for the works and then worked collectively to cost and sequence the activities in order to develop a tender price, a works programme and an expenditure forecast for the whole project.
i.) In relation to the planning of construction activities, and with links to relevant literature, describe three systems appropriate for managing time, cost and risk respectively in the environment of construction practice. (20 marks)
ii.) By imagining that you are employed in the role of a project manager tasked with managing a team of engineers engaged in a tender activity, explain how you would apply the three systems described in part i. to effectively manage the team. Augment your explanation with three examples (one example specific to each management system) drawn from the module tender assignment. (30 marks)
