I have ghostwritten and converted a number of novels to screenplays and vice versa so I fully understand the intricate nuances involved with each approach. A good screenplay utilizes as few words as possible to convey the visual imagery of the story to The Reader (professional script reader) while maintaining a healthy balance of white space (so as not to scare off the already overburdened script reader). A novel on the other hand is read directly by the consumer without any translation or input from a director or any similar such person. Hence a novel has to convey the entire story to the reader/consumer on its own merit. Naturally then the writing style for a novel needs to be more detailed and elaborate, which of course should not equate as boring (many novice writers use filler words and paragraphs to increase page numbers). It goes without saying that different styles of writing require different verbiage to convey the desired ambiance of the narrative. In this case a supernatural thriller needs a certain tone and word use to be effective (Note: I'm an avid (but not rabid) fan of the TV Show, "Supernatural".)
