Display Vista Default Recording Device

I need a vb.net sample application that displays the full default recording device name in Vista. We were using waveInGetDevCaps in XP to determine the defualt device. This only returns the first 32 characters of the device name which is not enough for our purposes in Vista. We need a different call to determine the defualt microphone device name now. It is preferable to accomplish this without having to reference DirectX and any other components that might not come standard with Windows XP and Vista. Please do not bid on this project unless you have a solution ready that has been tested in Vista.
