I work for a company thanks to someone who recently did that to them. We wanted a link placed on our homepage and a new design for that page....so basically a link...which could be simple text or small button and then one page with information on it. They quoted us at a price of 6k and said if we sign today they would knock a grand off of it. I wont name the company but it sounds very similar. When she came to me and asked me if this was a fair price I was shocked by it. It made absolutely no sense. You can get a website built from scratch for way cheaper than that. Since then she has hired me on full-time as the designer and webmaster. She has also paid for me to open my own design company at www.daemondesigns.com. I would need more details about the case as well as a copy of the contract to be prepared for the case. Id also like to speak with you about the details of your request to the company for what you wanted. I concider myself to be intelligent and not easily manipulated, which is what they are going to try and do in court. Most judges have no idea about the details and terminology so i commend you for putting this out there. id hate to see this happen to anyone. I truly hope you are able to get this settled so you can move on from this issue. BE PREPARED! Best advise I can offer. the more documentation you bring with you will help you establish a fair, avarage price for your request. That will help you in court. In our case the individual company was a middle man and had other companies do the work at the regular price. Many hosting companies set-up an account which will allow them to upload your site and only give you access to their version of the hosting page...which gives no information on who really is hosting your site. research that and at the prices he is charging you I am sure you will discover that he is paying another company to host your website at prices like $20 a year. I am a licensed and registered web development company, as well I have also reviewed several cases for clients who ahd been in the same circumstance, Its very simply really, You just need to have a licensed company review what has been done, or what you were literraly given as far as web files, a notorized statement from a licensed U.S company in court will suffice. The advise is free, but please also understand, you should always have a contract in hand when hiring, There are a lot of unscrupulous people out here that will completely take advantage of those that are very legit, It ceratinly makes it much harder fhor those of us that are.
