Greetings, Installing QB starts with the database only installation on your primary or secondary Windows domain controller. You can elect to use a license and install a full version on the DC, its entirely up to you. The DC installation is also the core of your licensing with Intuit. Depending on what you wish to do, you may want to open certain ports on your gateway to allow QB to talk to certain services. There is a major piece of the premise QBO, which is the synchronization service that is being phased out by February in an effort to push people to QBO. There are a number of network level and MS server (GPO) level items to consider depending on your usage.
