I am brand new to mysql and need help setting up things. my website has a DB on it. The tech backed it up with a dump flie.sql. He said all I had to do was download it to my desktop so I didnt create a DB on my desktop.I tried to register my desktop MysqlManager server with my database on the web and it isnt working. first I have to highlight a current database then ask it to register. When I do it asks for:
a) server name so I tried both DNS name and the IP address above,
b) host and I used "localhost" and tried the DAN address once also.
c) A choice of Login information to use trusted or stand option so I choose standard. loginID
d)I put root and the password for my database and tried pasword for my site but it wont connect. (seee attachment)
MY IP said to use this to connnect
mysql -u mysqlusername -pmysqlpassword mysqldatabasename < [login to view URL]
and that the problem is on my desktop end because the dumpfile has no association with your desktop login settings.
2) The second question is similar. I used myODBC to create a connection to the web database so I can also use access with mysql. Now I can fill in everything in the ODBC except the connect string. Can you please help me with an idea what to use here also. I loaded the mysql Driver to my desktop so its just the connection string. (see attachment1)
3) I added this command to add a global variable so that I could read data from a text file. It is an exercise in a tutorial but I cant get the variable of local_infile to run with command SET GLOBAL LOCAL_INFOFILE ON;
to let me accept the text file I created for the tutorial.(SEE attch3)
