Help fix my coupons for magento store

Hi, Im having trouble with my magento coupons. My customers are unable to use many of my coupon codes. Example: 2 items are in the cart, the coupon doesnt work. Remove one of the items, the coupon works. My goal: to offer a free gift sku item if any other item is purchased. This project must be completed in the next 1-2 hrs. I have many other small to medium tasks to complete. If you complete this task efficiently ill rehire quickly.
