Write Software to copy image files from one external HD to another and when necessary modify filename to avoid duplicates

Objective: Select and copy only photos and images from an old hard drive to a new external hard drive, but check and rename any file that has the same name already existing on the new external hard drive (fyi, the old hard drive and the new external hard drive would both be connected via usb to my Windows 7 laptop) Maybe there is a windows program, batch program, or Visual Basic that can do the following Requirements:  Program should be able to review the entire old hard drive for photo/image files (ex. Start at root director and review all folders and sub directories)  Ability to scan old hard drive to identify and copy only Photo/Image files to new external hard drive  If the photo/image file selected to be copied from the old hard drive exists on the new external hard drive then the file name that is to be copied to the new external hard drive should append a unique id DUP & numberXXX (ex. [login to view URL] will become [login to view URL]) and be able to continue to increment by 1 the XXX if more of the same file name/duplicated are found.  Copied photo/image files will reside in the  No original photo/image file on the old hard drive should be modified or deleted during this process, Only the file name of the photo/image file to be copied on the new external hard drive should be modified to avoid overwriting file names and to eliminate duplicate file names on the new external hard drive  Do not overwrite the creation date or modified date of the photo/image during the copy to the new external hard drive  Keep all embedded information/metadata associated with the photo/image file intact during the copy to the new external hard drive  Keep track & display the total number of files copied & number of duplicates identify & modified (optional: maybe write to a log file with the directories where photo/images were found and how many in each folder) Summary: I want to be able to do a sequential search on the selected directory on the old hard drive and find all photo image type files (ex. jpg, jpeg, png, tiff, bmp, gif, etc.); and once the image file(s) are found then use a program like batch xcopy or visual basic to copy the photo/image files and the files attributes from the selected old hard drive to the new external hard drive. Keeping in mind that during the copy there maybe files with the same name (possible duplicate file names) identified on the external hard drive? So there should be a way to write a Windows program to select and copy the photo/image file from the old hard drive, but add a unique number to any duplicate file name on the new external hard drive? Ideally, the batch program would be able to tell that there is a similar file name on the new external hard drive prior to copying it, and allow the existing name to be modified by appending the letters 'DUP' along with a unique 3 digit number to the file name it is attempting to write to the new external hard drive. this something that may be easy to do in Batch or Visual basic or perhaps there is a downloadable program for Windows that exists that can handle this copy / renaming task?
