Hello, I am a very experienced Primary School teacher working in Hong Kong. Here is an example of a worksheet I have used recently.
Magic e
(A magic e goes at the end of a word and it changes the sound of the vowel to its letter name eg tap becomes tape)
Pete and Mike
One morning Pete went out on his new bike with silver spokes. He was going to visit Mike, who was his best mate. Pete rode along the street, whistling a tune. The place where Mike had his home was at the bottom of the hill. When he rode down he found that his back brake was very stiff. At first he could not make the bike slow down, but then he was able to take his feet off the pedals and use them to make the bike go slower.
Mike was still asleep but his Mum woke him.
“Wake up Mike, you are late, it’s time you were up” said Mum.
“Your breakfast is on the plate, I hope you like it. I have to wipe the floor and shake the carpets, this house is in a terrible state!”
“OK Mum,” replied Mike, “we can help. We can rake the leaves and make a big pile in the garden and this evening we can make a fire with them. It won’t take us very long.”
“Thanks Mike, I will bake a special cake for tea, now wash your face. Oh you already ate your corn flakes!”
Circle and make a list of all the magic e words you can find. Now write six sentences, each one with two magic e words.
