Pop Up Div Layer onClick

Fast job I would like done right away. I have a chat form that uses emoticons, I would like an option for users to auto insert emoticons in their message. Just like the one on Facebook when sending messages. There's a message box, and inside the input on the top right corner is a picture of a smiley face. When you click the smiley face it opens up a static div layer showing all emoticons for users to choose from. Once an emoticon is clicked I'd like it to put its code inside of the message form. For instance if a user clicks a sad face emoticon, in the message form it will automatically post :( Please see attached file.
