Hello I have +10 years of experience in Python programming. Python is much better than PHP to develop such scripting projects. I mean when you want to connect to multiple sources of data, read and process them, and use in another format, Python is best programming language and development take at least half time than when you use PHP. As one example you can take a look at these projects, I have done for one of my employers a few months ago. I read an MS Access inventory file list from somewhere, then read price list from another place. Then I used SKU of products to integrate these 2 sources.
